iPhone 4S vs Motorola Droid RAZR (Droid HD) and HTC Amaze

Overview

In today’s event, Apple released the much awaited iPhone 4S. Yes, you read correctly, Apple has chosen to name their new device the iPhone 4S. Despite the disapproval of many fans , the name was, in my opinion, chosen correctly. The new A5 chip and camera will sit inside a casing nearly identical to the iPhone 4. However, Apple has done a nice job of touching up the phone by means of operating system and also specifications.

On the other hand, recent rumors have produced the Motorola Droid RAZR, otherwise known as the Droid HD. Possibly boasting Ice Cream Sandwich upon its release, the Droid RAZR is a perfect fit for an old fashion showdown with the brand spanking new iPhone 4S. Before we pick a winner, take a look for yourself.

Pro’s and Con’s

Display: The main difference-maker here is display. The Droid RAZR is speculated to be packing a 4.3″ Super AMOLED display. Among other upcoming Android devices, Samsung has been working on Super AMOLED HD displays of up to 1280 x 720 pixels. On the other hand, the iPhone 4S is being introduced with a frankly disappointing 3.5″ Retina display. Although this display has a very high pixel density, it is no where near as big as the Droid RAZR’s.

Operating System: Along with the release of the iPhone 4S, Apple introduced iOS5. With over 200 new features and 4 key updates, Apple has produced a very nice new OS. From Android’s side, Ice Cream Sandwich is rumored to be announced on October 11th, just one day before the release of iOS5. Although no information is clear yet, Ice Cream Sandwich has been caught on camera and you can watch the full video below.

And the Winner Is…

Well, we can’t quite say. With Ice Cream Sandwich only days away and the iPhone 4S only released today, both phones are a little young to be in such a big fight. However, the two main differences will come down to display and OS. Both phones have similar specifications and the differences will appeal to one’s personal choice. Therefore, we want to hear what you think. With all of the information and specifications at your disposal, pick a winner and tell us what you think in the comments below.

HTC’s latest Android Superphone – the HTC Amaze is, in our opinion, a bit of an unknown device, but it’s packing specs that demand it be taken very seriously. In this piece, we compare it to Apple’s latest – the iPhone 4S. Which one will come out on top?

Overview

Amaze 4G

After posing for a nice little press shot back in late September, the HTC Amaze 4G is now the star of a “Silent Video Walkthrough” created by the Youtube user Ktwist311. The voice-less video shows off both the hardware and the operating system. T-Mobile recently confirmed that the Amaze 4G will be running Gingerbread and have Sense 3.0. Now that the Amaze 4G has gone live on T-Mobile’s website, you can keep reading below for a full list of specifications.

iPhone 4S

Instead of doing our own overview, we think you would enjoy hearing it straight from Apple:

“The dual-core A5 chip delivers even more power. The 8MP camera with all-new optics also shoots 1080p HD video. And with Siri, iPhone 4S does what you ask. Talk about amazing.”

Pro’s and Con’s

Display: One of the big differences here is screen size. As you can tell from the specifications list, both companies go “all-out” in two completely different ways. On Apple’s side, the iPhone 4S has an amazing “Retina” screen resolution while the Amaze 4G has excellent resolution as well, and puts a massive screen in your hand. The winner in this category will come down to personal preference.

Operating System: Along with the release of the iPhone 4S, Apple introduced iOS5. With over “200 new features and 4 key updates”, Apple has produced a very nice new OS. From Android’s side, Ice Cream Sandwich is rumored to be announced on October 11th, just one day before the official release of iOS5. Although no information is clear yet, Ice Cream Sandwich has been caught on camera and you can watch the full video below.

Battery: Maybe not one of your biggest concerns, but the battery power behind these devices does show a difference. However, just because the Amaze 4G has a “better” battery in terms of mAh, Apple somehow finds a way to squeeze just as much juice out of their devices. Therefore, don’t look here for a big difference-maker.

4G: Apple showed that the iPhone 4S can get speeds up to 14.4mb/s – theoretically. However, due to the fact that those numbers are based off of HSDPA, US users will not be getting these speeds. Therefore, if you are in T-Mobile’s 4G coverage, this will be a huge deciding factor for you now that the iPhone still does not support 4G.

And the Winner Is…

Based on pure specifications, it looks like the HTC Amaze 4G will come out on top for one reason; 4G. However, keep in mind that if you are not a T-Mobile customer or if you are not under their 4G coverage, then you may want to take a look at what the iPhone 4S has in store with the other U.S. carriers.
