Book Review:

What first caught my attention about this book was the cover. Lets face it, we all like books that have very beautiful covers. Sometimes we judge whether or not a book is bought by a cover. When I saw that they were going to have this book at BEA, I gushed with giddy excitement. Not to mention when I read the synopsis or blurb for the book. So I read the blurb and I was instantly hooked. I just had to have this book. Those who know me, know I am a sucker for a vampire book. Especially for a vampire book.

The world building that Kristen Painter has created in this book was top-notch. What I mean by this is that she sets the world up beautifully. Her main character is a commare name Chrysabelle. A commarre is a vampire servant basically and there patrons, (not masters) benefit from the blood exchange. The patrons pay for these commarre’s, their blood rights are sold to them. Commares can be freed, but it’s not pretty.

This started off as a very tense book, because Chrysabelle’s patron has been murdered and she runs away to Paradise City in the book. The Villain Tatiana wants to frame her and do some sort of ritual, so that she can take over the world. The Villain was a little over the top, but I like when we have a very strong female protagonist and villain. It actually makes the story more compelling.

Chrysabelle has a ring that her old patron had, Titania wants it. Titania needs the ring to bring about the end of the days, through a ritual. She can’t do it without the ring. Chrysabelle goes on the run, because she doesn’t want to be blame and heads to Paradise City to find her aunt, Maris. Along the way, she meets Malcom.

Malcom is a vampire who has a lot of secrets. Plus he is a great vampire character because of spells that were placed on him. Somehow through a weird series of events he gets control of Chrysabelle and her blood rights. Also, Fi who was a ghost, somehow became solid after having Chrysabelle’s blood inserted into her.

This book kept me riveted . There were so many twists and turns in this book. I like the fact that Chrysabelle is also prepared to fight and can. I like that she made the heroine able to defend herself. Not to mention that Malcom is no such slouch. The commarre’s are trained to fight and you will find this to be quite useful.

There are so many twists and turns. I didn’t expect for a lot of characters to die or some of the revelations to be revealed in a stunning fashion. This was a nice surprise and right at the end of the book. I did enjoy the fact that I could still be surprised. I really did love the surprises, fights, sword play and much more happened in this novel.
This book is a great addition to the vampire lore/fantasy. You will enjoy this book. I totally enjoyed this book.
