Book Review:
Book Review:
What first caught my attention about this book was the cover. Lets face it, we all like books that have very beautiful covers. Sometimes we judge whether or not a book is bought by a cover. When I saw that they were going to have this book at BEA, I gushed with giddy excitement. Not to mention when I read the synopsis or blurb for the book. So I read the blurb and I was instantly hooked. I just had to have this book. Those who know me, know I am a sucker for a vampire book. Especially for a vampire book.
The world building that Kristen Painter has created in this book was top-notch. What I mean by this is that she sets the world up beautifully. Her main character is a commare name Chrysabelle. A commarre is a vampire servant basically and there patrons, (not masters) benefit from the blood exchange. The patrons pay for these commarre’s, their blood rights are sold to them. Commares can be freed, but it’s not pretty.
This started off as a very tense book, because Chrysabelle’s patron has been murdered and she runs away to Paradise City in the book. The Villain Tatiana wants to frame her and do some sort of ritual, so that she can take over the world. The Villain was a little over the top, but I like when we have a very strong female protagonist and villain. It actually makes the story more compelling.
Chrysabelle has a ring that her old patron had, Titania wants it. Titania needs the ring to bring about the end of the days, through a ritual. She can’t do it without the ring. Chrysabelle goes on the run, because she doesn’t want to be blame and heads to Paradise City to find her aunt, Maris. Along the way, she meets Malcom.
Malcom is a vampire who has a lot of secrets. Plus he is a great vampire character because of spells that were placed on him. Somehow through a weird series of events he gets control of Chrysabelle and her blood rights. Also, Fi who was a ghost, somehow became solid after having Chrysabelle’s blood inserted into her.
This book kept me riveted . There were so many twists and turns in this book. I like the fact that Chrysabelle is also prepared to fight and can. I like that she made the heroine able to defend herself. Not to mention that Malcom is no such slouch. The commarre’s are trained to fight and you will find this to be quite useful.
There are so many twists and turns. I didn’t expect for a lot of characters to die or some of the revelations to be revealed in a stunning fashion. This was a nice surprise and right at the end of the book. I did enjoy the fact that I could still be surprised. I really did love the surprises, fights, sword play and much more happened in this novel.
This book is a great addition to the vampire lore/fantasy. You will enjoy this book. I totally enjoyed this book.

Q: What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?
A: Now there are several answers that I could possibly come up with this question. One series that I think would make an awesome series is Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson" Series. I really like the characters, the dynamics in this series. Who would i cast as Mercy Thompson, wow there are so many talented actresses out there. Mercy Thompson looks like this, this is the picture from Book Four:
Some of my pics are:
Olivia Wilde:
Zoe Saldana
Jessica Alba

Waiting on Wednesday #7
My Waiting on Wednesday Pick is Archon by Sabrina Benulis
Book Synopsis:
Angela Mathers is plagued by visions of angels, supernatural creatures who haunt her thoughts by day and seduce her dreams by night. Newly released from a mental institution where she was locked away for two years, she hopes that her time at the Vatican’s university, the West Wood Academy, will give her a chance at a normal life. Unlike ordinary humans, Angela is a blood head — a freak, a monster, the possible fulfillment of a terrifying prophecy of overwhelming death and destruction. Only in Luz, the Vatican’s wondrous enclave, are blood heads accepted and encouraged to discover what kind of powers or special abilities they might possess.
But within West Wood, a secret coven plots, and demons and angels roam the streets searching for the key to open Raziel’s book — a secret tome from a lost archangel. Some are determined to destroy Raziel, while others, like the beautiful Supernal Israfel, one of the highest of the high, wish to free him. And when the Archon — the human chosen to possess the spirit of a dead angel — rises as foretold, they will control the supernatural universe.
Torn between mortal love and angelic obsession, Angela holds the key to Heaven and Hell — and both will stop at nothing to possess her.
This books sounds like a book I would enjoy immensely. It comes out December 27,2011 I can't wait to read it.

ARC Review: Spiders Revenge by Jennifer Estep
Title: Spiders Revenge
Author: Jennifer Estep
Publisher: Pocket Books-Imprint of Simon & Schuster
Pub Date: 09-27-2011
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: Elemental Assassin, this is the fifth book in the series
My Edition: Got An Arc of It at Authors After Dark
Book Synopsis:
Old habits die hard. And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through.
Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen.
Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters she hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second.
Good thing I’ve got my powerful Stone and Ice magic — and my irresistible lover Owen Grayson — to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me...no matter what I have to do to make that happen
Book Review:
This being the fifth book in the Elemental Assassin Series, I was expecting a lot from this installment. Jennifer Estep delivered in every way.
What I loved about this book was that there was a lot of action right in the opening scenes of the book. This book has been a long time coming. I felt that this storyline has been building in a lot of ways since book 2 in the series.
Mab Monroe, the fire elemental and head of Ashland’s underworld had Gin Blanco/Guinevere Snow’s family murdered with the exception of her sister. They have found each other after so many years. Yet Mab Monroe has constantly tried to kill Bria, Gin’s sister on more than one occasion. What I like about this book is that Gin has finally, I mean decided to take the fight literally to Mab’s doorstep.
The twists and turns this book had were great. Really love that right away Gin is not going to let Mab run her life. She wants revenge on Mab, not to mention to protect those that love her. Her family, friends and even Owen.
What happens in this book from the opening scenes is intense and great. I like how we are witnessing the beginning of what is going to be an awesome book. You get to see Gin’s frustration about how she misses and then has to run away from Mab’s goon’s when she misses her.
This book was so action packed that I immediately fell in love with all the characters all over again. Fletcher, Bria, Owen, Jo-Jo, Sophia and the gang are all back. I love how protective Owen is of Gin. When Owen and Gin are together, they are so perfect together. He even tells her that next time she goes after Mab, he’s coming with her.
Love all the twists and turns this novel took. A lot of explosions, fights, some tension between Gin’s sister Bria and Fletcher (which was nice). This makes me likes the novel a lot more.
The final confrontation between Mab and Gin was everything I hoped it would be and more. Jennifer Estep set it up perfectly. Mab made a great villain. What I like about Mab, was that she wasn’t afraid of Gin and had some great words for our heroine. Gin, didn’t show any fear either. Their final confrontation was great. The Stone and Ice Elemental vs. the Fire Elemental. What made this a great battle was that neither would give in. Love everything about this book.
I was so glad when Gin was victorious. Although I wonder what is left now that Mab is no more. What does the future hold for Gin and friends? I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Although I want to see more of Owen in the books. I think Owen is my second favorite character in this series.

Things I Have Learned About Blogging
Thing I Have Learned About Blogging
Okay, i know I haven't been blogging that long, but I'm on twitter, goodreads, facebook a lot. This is going to be an advice, things that I've learned about blogging, some things I think newer bloggers, even authors (thought you guys were not going to be mentioned) need to be aware of.
GENERAL ADVICE
1. Blogging is Fun & A Lot of Work. Yes blogging is fun, but it can be a lot of work. Some bloggers don't understand how much time bloggers put into their blogs. People think "Gee, I'll start a blog" Not realizing that there are things like having a schedule, putting together the blog-in the beginning when I started the blog, I spent like 4 or 5 hours learning HTML. Yes bloggers need to know some HTML. Writing Reviews takes time. You write the review, then do spell check, then re-read your review, make changes until you are satisfied with it. Then Formatting the Post takes work. So Hence Not Easy
2. THIS IS NOT ABOUT GETTING FREE BOOKS. I've seen this trend lately with book blogs. Some book bloggers want to start a book blog to get free books. Book Blogs that do this don't last very long. You really have to work for these books. Some book blogs never even review a single book on their blogs. What is the point of a blog if you never update it.
3. ARCS, HOW TO GET THEM? PLEASE DON't CYBERBEG. The addition of cyber begging for books on Facebook makes me upset because their are so many different ways to get ARC's on the net.
Want Advanced Reader Copies, Here are some of the ways to Get Them
1. GET A NETGALLEY ACCOUNT. It's Free. They give you sixty days to review them. When you are done reading the book, type your review, send them a copy of your review with the link. Done. This was one of the first things I did when I started blogging. It helped a lot.
2. REVIEW WHAT YOU HAVE. When I first started blogging, I didn't get too many books from Net Galley. What did I do? I reviewed books that I had in my TBR pile. You have to put the work in. I mean it takes time, but is it worth it. Yes. Yes.
3. Build YOUR Readership Now the more followers you have, the more likely chance you have receiving ARCS. Publishers like to give ARC's away to Book Blogs that have proven themselves to have a loyal readership or following. What gets your readership growing, can be several things. I also have learned this from other bloggers:
A. Reviews. Be honest in your reviews. Even if you don't like the book, be honest. I find that some of my most commented book reviews are on books that I didn't like. Not all book bloggers are going to love the same books.
B. Memes. Be careful of this. This was one of my earliest mistakes. When I started, I was doing like Five Memes or Six Memes. Can't remember how many. They helped tremoundously in the beginning. Yet . Memes are a great way to connect with other blogs. Two of the Memes I participate in, is Parajunkees & now co-hosted by Allison Can Read Follow Thursday/Friday where they feature 2 bloggers every week and answer a question. Over 200 Blogs Participate in this Meme. Another Meme that I like is Story Siren's In Your Mailbox, where people list the books they get from Various Sources. Over 300 blogs participate in this blog.

Another Meme that I like is called Random Acts of Kindness which is run by the wonderful Book Soulmates. The idea behind this program is that you make a wishlist. It can be on Amazon, Goodreads or your blog. Every month you sign up at their sign up page, sign up post your wish list and if someone is kind, they might send you a book. If you are kind, you will send them one.
This is a wonderful way to meet new bloggers and possibly increase your followers,
When visiting blogs, leave meaningful comments. They are not going to know who you are if you don't leave a comment. Sometimes GASP people will follow you back.
C. Write to Publishers. Yes. Believe it or not you can write to the publishers to get review copies of books. It works. There are ways to get contacts at the publishing house. You can look at their catalogs. Most of the major publishing houses have their catalogs online. So look at the catalogs and usually their is an email that you can send the publisher if you want to get review copies.
Be Professional When Requesting. Say who you are, what blog you run. How many months you have been blogging, how many followers you have and what genres your review on your blog. Be COURTEOUS WHEN REQUESTING ARCS. Believe it or not this works. Also please understand that sometimes the Publishers run out of ARCS. I've seen it happen. Don't get upset. there are plenty of other books. Also when requesting try to request 1-2 titles.
D. Goodreads, Library Thing. There are always giveaways going on for ARCS. A lot of people participate in these giveaways. ENTER ANYWAY. You never know. You might just win that ARC you wanted.
4. NEW BLOG. How do I get my name out there?
A. Attend Conferences. This is so true. Network, Network. People like to have a face associated with the blog you run. You can meet other bloggers and lovers of books.
B. Make Business Cards. Yes Business Cards are essential. At BEA, i passed out so many business cards for the blogs. Since my Blog has an unusual title, it would be memorable. No. I know for me personally, if I saw you yes I would remember, but sometimes I meet so many bloggers it's hard to keep track of them all. That's why I hand a business card out and get them back. It's easier fro me to remember you.
C. Join Memes. I just mentioned a few.
D. Social Media like Twitter, Facebook. Twitter is better. Make a Twitter account and a Facebook acoount if you don't have one. Half of all my new blogger friends came from twitter. It's also how I learned about contests and giveaways.
BAD BEHAVIOR FROM BLOGGERS & AUTHORS
Okay both Bloggers and Authors sometimes gasp do bad behaviors.
Here are some that I can't stand.
1. CYBER BEGGING-Nothing makes me angrier than seeing this behavior. Please don't do this. It makes us look all bad. Wicked Little Pizie recently did a post that explains why this is a bad idea. Here is her explanation and I have to agree with her observation.
Wicked Little Pizies Begging For Books Post
The reason I agree with her post is that some bloggers like myself send requests via publishers. Another thing that most bloggers don't understand is that Authors don't have a lot of ARCs and what few they get, they give away to family and friends.
2. AUTHORS-SPAMMING THE BLOGGERS INBOX WITH REQUESTS. Okay, i love getting requests. I like trying new authors. Really do. When several authors give me requests I will try to look at them. Sometimes real life intereferes with Book Blogging. Yet when I see 20-40 requests from the same author, it makes me mad, I don't have time to go through that many e-mails. I have a schedule and a life. I try to be fair. Sometimes it's hard.
3. Authors-PLEASE PROOFREAD YOUR WORK. This goes for all authors. I'm not an editor, nor do I want to be one. I like to read your books. If your book is loaded with spelling, bad grammatical errors, please don't send it to me. It takes away from my reading experience. I want to read your work.
4. AUTHORS-DON'T GET UPSET IF YOU GET A BAD REVIEW. In life, I try to read the book and give my honest opinion. Always try hard to say something nice about your book. Sometimes I give a bad review. I'm not judging you, I'm judging the book you wrote. Don't take it personally, and don't insult the reviewer. That makes me not want to review you.
5. Bloggers-READ The BOOK Please before posting a review. This should be self-explanatory. I see that people just review a book by the cover alone, especially on Goodreads. If you have an ARC fine, review it then. Not on the cover
6. Plagarizm. Have your own voice. Don't copy, don't steal. It is so wrong on so many levels. Bloggers take a lot of time reviewing and writing their posts.
These are the things that I have learned about blogging. What have you learned? What would you like to know more? Remember there are many ways to go about book-blogging. Everybody is different. Blog in the way that's best for you.

This Week's Question comes from The World of The Sporkmaster
Question: Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?
My Answer: Wow. This is a hard one because there are so many series I love. There are 2 series that I just love so much. One being the Elemental Assasin Series by Jennifer Estep. I just love this series. Love the world she has build. Also like how even though you are not suppose to like the main characters line of work, she makes the female protaganist likeable. I really loved her wittiness.
The next series I love is Sherrilynn Kenyon's Dark Hunters. Rich, dark. This series makes me feel good. I love how every book in the series focuses on a different character. Plus she has own unique take on different mythologies and makes them her own. Kenyon makes her male characters and female characters interesting. Just love her books. Can't wait till the next book.
What series do you read over and over again.

Early Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author: Laini Taylor
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal
Publisher: Little Brown and Company
Pub Date: 09-27-2011
Source:Advance Reader Copy that I Got at BEA, thanks to the generous people at Little Brown and Company
Book Synpsis: Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?
Review:
Love this dark, unique world that Laini Taylor has built. There is nothing quite like this book. This book takes readers on a dark journey that one will not forget. She has created a unique mythology.
There are beings in this world that I've never heard of yet they work because these creatures are integral to the way the book unfolds. What I like about Karou, our heroine seems like any other human girl, but as the story unfolds she is anything but ordinary.
Here is a young woman who has a destiny, that even she is unaware of. The scenes here were intense and scary at times. Especially the action scenes, yet they work, because their is a battle going on with all the beings.
You also get a bit of christian mythology blended in the book. There are Angels who want to kill Karou, Karou is special and not like the other beings. We and her think she is human because she has never displayed any special abilities. What makes her unique is that she is raised by beings who are not human, but care for her. She gets things for Brimstone, the creature who has raised her.
Brimstone is a unique character in the fact that even though he thought he could no longer feel human emotions or any emotions he does. When the Angels come to attack the people that Karou has trusted and lived with. The one angel does hurt Karou, but instead of killing her, he feels something for her.
What I loved about the Angel and Karou's scenes together were fantastic. She is teaching him things and he's trying to get to the bottom of what is special about her. Also love that Karou's human life is very nice, but sometimes a struggle for her. Although her caretaker has provided her with money.
This book was intense, amazing, everything a good paranormal should do. Also like that Karou and the Angel don't instantly fall in love. They know they are attracted to each other and wonder if this feeling could turn into Love.
I loved the ending of this book, despite it being a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers. I desperately want to read the sequel to find out what happens next.
I adored this book.
